Stay Active in the Colder Months

Even though we have had a mild fall, Maine will never disappoint to send some cold weather our way! Keep in mind that exercise and staying active are as important as ever. When we exercise, we stay physically fit, bolster our immune system and mental health.

If you choose outdoor exercise, such as skiing, snow shoeing or ice climbing, remember to warm up before you go “all out”. This is important to prevent injuries such as soft tissue strains, joint irritation, and tendonitis. It is also important to remember hydrating while exercising outdoors, even though it is not as apparent as in the hot summer months!

Staying indoors for exercise? Try varying your gym or at home exercise routine to avoid repetitive strain injuries. Choose different equipment to keep it interesting and for a more balanced workout. The same goes for classes!

Finally, if you are at a total loss of things to do in Southern Maine for exercise this winter, we have a few ides:

  1. Cross Country Skiing at Riverside Golf Course (Followed by hot chocolate next to the warm fire in the club house of course!)
  2. Rock Climbing at Evo Rock Gym
  3. Black Mountain: Downhill skiing, cross country skiing and snow tubing
  4. Snow shoeing at Twin Brooks in Cumberland
  5. Ice Skating at Thompson’s Point - check out the yurt to get warm and have a snack!
  6. Get Air-trampolines for kids and adults
  7. AND of course a yoga class at Jade!
